As Houston prepares for the 38th Annual Art Car Parade, Spring Branch Independent School District (SBISD) is joining in the excitement with the beloved Spring Branch Shimmy, a creative celebration of student artistry and imagination.
On April 11, 2025, SBISD students, teachers, and families will come together to showcase their own uniquely adorned vehicles, leading up to Houston's signature parade weekend. These vehicles will not only be part of the Shimmy but will also take center stage in the official Art Car Parade, giving students a chance to showcase their creativity to the whole city.
This year, four SBISD schools will be represented in the parade, each contributing their own artistic flair:
- Spring Woods High School – With a Gilman Grant, led by Ashlie Winscott
- Northbrook High School – Also a recipient of a Gilman Grant, led by Christopher McVay
- Spring Forest Middle School – Independently led by Becky Mustachio and Rachel Wedel
- Wilchester Elementary – Led by Stephanie Walton, a District Teacher of the Year finalist
The Spring Branch Shimmy will kick off at 8:30 AM at Grob Stadium (8880 Westview Dr, Houston, TX 77055). This event serves as the starting point for a fun-filled day as the creative vehicles make their way along four carefully planned route through various school campuses, where they'll be cheered on by fellow students, teachers, and families.
The parade will pass through local landmarks, making stops at Landrum and Lion Lane, Edgewood Elementary, Holbrook Elementary, Spring Woods Middle School, AYAM, and many other locations. The route provides a unique opportunity for the entire community to come together in support of the incredible talents of our students.
The vehicles will also be featured in the official Houston Art Car Parade, allowing our students’ work to shine in both local and citywide celebrations. These exceptional designs are a testament to the talent and imagination nurtured within Spring Branch ISD.
The festivities will culminate at AYAM at noon, where participants will gather to reflect on the day’s celebrations.
