October is Dyslexia Awareness Month, and Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) is celebrating the creativity, curiosity and strengths of students with dyslexia while highlighting the support that helps them thrive.
Dyslexia is a common, lifelong learning difference that affects reading and written language skills. With effective instruction and support, students with dyslexia can build confidence, strengthen their skills and achieve their goals.
Identifying needs early: SBISD screens all kindergarten and first grade students for reading risk. When students show signs of dyslexia at any grade level, campus teams review their learning needs, partner with families and, when appropriate, conduct a full evaluation guided by the Texas Dyslexia Handbook.
Supporting every learner: Students identified with dyslexia receive evidence-based, multisensory reading instruction from trained dyslexia instruction providers on their campuses. Classroom accommodations and ongoing collaboration with families help students develop their skills and recognize their strengths.
